Hachimantai, a bright land of abundance.  Formed by the merging of the towns of Nishi and Ashiro with the village of Matsuo, Hachimantai possesses abundant natural areas, with plentiful tourist attractions including trails for mountain hiking, hot springs, and ski resorts.

Ludens Farm

A small farm at the foot of Mt. Iwate. At this farm, all kinds of people visit, bringing joy with them, increase their passion for life before they leave. It is believed that this fantastic farm is being created with the assistance of spirits and myriad deities.

Saito Minimini Farm

Address: 1-595-3 Matsuyoriki, Hachimantai, Iwate

This is a loose group of moms that love making things by hand. This group provides hands-on activities that vary with the seasons including cooking local Hachimantai dishes and weaving (wool and sakiori).

Hachimantai Mountain Hotel

The Hachimantai Mountain Hotel, famous for its excellent service, is well-versed with the natural beauty of Hachimantai. Just as its name suggests, there are mountain guides that are very knowledgeable about mountain activities on staff here. Every year there are excellent guided tours from spring through autumn. All the guides here working under Mr. Sugita, the chief guide, are experts on alpine flora. There is even English support for foreign visitors. These guides are knowledgeable and skilled. Their friendly, engaging demeanors also make them quite popular.

Washinoo

Established in 1829. Washinoo means hawk’s tail in Japanese. In the spring, the shape of the snow melting on Mt. Iwate forms the shape of a hawk, and thus is also called “Ganju”mountain. The pure spring water at the base of Mt. Iwate is used for brewing Washinoo sake and has been thus for the 200 years of operation of this famous brewery. This sake won a gold medal at the national new sake competition, and the platinum award at the Kura master Le Grand des Sakes Japonais de Paris in 2017 and 2018. The quality of this excellent sake is recognized both in Japan and abroad.

Ludens

Address: 24-659-10 Hirakasa, Hachimantai, Iwate

The “Little Cotton Café”bakery in Morioka and the “Mow Mow Farm” dairy farm in Hachimantai are both run by the same three people from the Ludens Farm in Hachimantai. They sponsor camping, farm activities, workshops, pop-up stores, concerts and other events at their expansive farm, during their “Noujyo-Camp” event. In 2018, 4,000 people visited their farm, and they just keep growing each year.
